twitterest tweets (no this is not under 140 characters)

i don't tweet and perhaps i have issues with an online forum on which people can blurt things out in less than 140 characters only because i have serious issues with run-on sentences, but there is definitely something to be said for minimalism in expression, and between academic and professional and social reasons, the idea of twitter has definitely crossed my mind lately, albeit fleetingly, but then when my best friend and her boyfriend started tweeting and i actually appreciated the content, the idea has moved to the forefront of my mind, and might end up on my to-do list - in any case for now, i like myself some breakfast, lunch and dinner because the links are funny, ridiculous and awesome just like meg. 'follow' them, you twitter users!

simplest beautification project that makes you ask, why didn't i think of that?

being on the rooftop farms listserve brought me an email about Project Sunflower, a perfectly simple project for less grey and more green in brooklyn (or bright beautiful yellow in this case). the best part of this project is that it just entails giving away the goods for free (sunflower seeds), which is one of the most honest forms of voluntarism i've heard of. all he wants you to do in return is give the seeds some soil and water. so, not only do i like the green initiative behind, it, i love the simple generosity and selflessness.

a new contender for the worst U.S. oil disaster in history in a matter of weeks...

Capt. Doogie Robin, 84, sat at a bar, sipping a Budweiser from the jaws of an alligator-head beer cozy. He runs eight oyster boats.

"Katrina really hit us hard," he said. "And this here, I think this is going to finish us now. I think this will wipe us off the map."

Even if the oil stays mostly offshore, the consequences could be dire for sea turtles, dolphins and other deepwater marine life - and microscopic plankton and tiny creatures that are a staple of larger animals' diets.

Moby Solangi, director of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, Miss., said at least 20 dead sea turtles were found on the state's beaches. He said it's too soon to say whether oil contamination killed them but that it is unusual to have them turning up across such a wide stretch of coast, nearly 30 miles.
